  Prior to 1973 there was a military c onscription in the USA, commonly called "the Draft." Since 1948 all men, ages 18 to 26, were requred to register, and then it was up to each individual to petition his local draft board for exemption. ALL Jehovah's Witnesses were expected by their religious leaders to take a rigid and uncompromising stand as "conscientious objectors" to military servce, refusing all forms of alternate service (because that would be "compromising" their loyalty to Jehovah by accepting the authority of The State. Taking this position would expose ALL JW men to the possibility of being arrested and sent to a Federal Prison. ALL of the male posters here who were JWs when they turnrd eighteen had to take ths stand, and there are posters here who served tme in Federal Prison because of their closely-held religious beliefs.

  IF the 18 year-ols male JW did not follow the WATCHTOWER rules he would be subject to excommunication from the JWs.

  So your challenge has been answered.

  There is nothing unique about Leopold Engleitner, and as a person who "took a stand," I resent your suggestion that he was some kind of modern Daniel in the Lion's Den. He was a misguided youth who followed the rules of The WATCHTOWER and paid the price for doing so. The WATCHTOWER didn't serve time in prison, Leopold did, and now the WATCHTOWER is happy to show him off as a "man of faith." BALONEY.

  Engleitner witnessed Nazi atrocities and has now found comfort in his old age by sitting in a wheelchair as an almost silent Watchtoer shill.

  He ignores the towering falsity of The WATCHTOWER and the pedophile atrocities that The WATCHTOWER is perpetrating TODAY.

  Was Jesus admonition to remain no part of the world good advice or not?

  in thinking about my own life, i think i can safely trace most of my excluded outcast childhood to jesus words in the bible to: "remain no part of the world".

  sure the wts in their legalistic thinking probably mis-applied this text, but it's still a prominent belief for other groups like the amish too.. no doubt many of us ex witnesses have issues with our childhood, who doesn't, right?

  still, that admonition from jesus in my opinion has so much wrong with it.

  Actually, I think this is VERY GOOD advice and I intend to appropriate it into my series of secular atheist right-thinking sermons.

  We exist in THIS space at THIS time. We are unavoidably, by virtue of our existence, PART of this world.

  As individuals we have very little power to change much about this world, but through the news media we are continually barraged with "news" - almost never happy news but news about new terrors, new outrages, new atrocities about which we can do nothing.

  The solution, my friends, is to take a "news purge diet." For five days, listen to NO news and thereafter restrict your exposure to the news as much as you possibly can.

  While doing this, try to increase your awareness of your local and virtually local environment. ACT locally to improve the situation of those near you.

  By doing this you can be in the world but no part of the world.
